ECOHOST Symposium: New frontiers in public health data
ECOHOST – The Centre for Health and Social Change at the School is hosting a one-day symposium on the use of social media and other innovative data sources in public health research. This symposium brings together public health researchers and data experts to present examples of how innovative data sources can be used and to discuss the opportunities and challenges their use presents in high, middle and low income country settings.
The symposium will consist of four sessions on innovative data sources:
- to examine health policy;
- for health surveillance;
- for rapid response in emergencies; and
- a discussion on the opportunities and challenges for using innovative data sources for public health research.
Data sources and methods to be discussed include: Google Trends, Google Street View, Twitter, text mining, satellite imagery, and crowd sourcing. Confirmed speakers are from Oxford University, University College London, Chatham House, and the School.
